Others

Okay, here are some other photos that came up on the blog in messed up colours. I figured instead of just going back and fixing them, I'd pop them in their own little section, cause they go back a little further.

There's the magazine cover which I submitted to my Photoshop class, and 2 pictures I submitted for my photography 1 class: DS Stack and De Minimis Maximus Portrait.

So, what is the lesson to be had here? When saving pictures for photoblog, in Photoshop "save for web and devises." I know, I should have figured that out WAY sooner... I'm such a noob.

Also...

I also wanted to post a couple other non-X pictures from that weekend. I didn't really take many shots because I was pretty busy running the BBQ, but I got a good shot of my brother, Bob & my parent's dog, Poopsie-Daisy. It's okay to love her name, it is my creation - I have a gift for names. In any case, here are two more pictures. I tried to save them differently, so fingers crossed that they load in the right colours.

oh snap! I may be a genious!!! I'll go back and fix the others!

Summer Fun with X!

Last weekend, my husband & I travelled home to Stittsville to visit the fam. We hosted a father's day BBQ (I know, a week late!!) at my parent's place. Since I don't get many chances to photograph kids, I decided to have a mini session with my nephew, Alexander - to which I will refer to as X for this point forward because 9 letters is far too much work. Below you will see the results.

I tried to direct X slightly. I asked him to smile for the camera (note: this was when he gave me the scary eyes), I asked him for goofy faces and I asked him to tell me a story. I think they turned out pretty well. I would have had some great shots of X & Dimi, but I'm an idiot and didn't set the camera probably... meh.

Troubles

I told myself that I would use my newly freed up Monday and Thursday nights to take pictures and try to get better... but I can tell you right now, I won't be doing any photography tomorrow. I just got Rock Band (Monday)... and well... I'll be sitting this week out so I can rock out! It just came out on the Wii, so I finally have the equipment all to myself ... well I share it with my husband, but you get the idea.

Intro to Digital Imaging - Finito

Well, its a sad sad day... classes are over. Luckily there will be other Photoshop classes to take.

I've uploaded my final test. I'm PISSED... I got home and showed Curtis and the first thing I saw was the n from the word design was cut off.... I hadn't even noticed because of the scratched up computer screens in the George Brown labs... ARGH! I KNEW I should have left 1/4 inch on the ends, but I thought that because it was such a small canvas a 1/4 inch would be too much... ah well. As my fellow Ottawa native Alanis Morrisette sang to us: "You live, you learn"

In any case, regardless of my fudge, I'm quite proud of the results. We were asked to create a flyer for our business in one hour and 15 minutes. We needed to use at least two images and use text. I used three images. The picture of the bedroom, the frame which I placed above the bed and the picture I took of my dog, within the frame. Then I added the grey background for the bottom portion, added some pretty text, because pretty is pretty.

I like it, hopefully you do too. Just remember, I know I screwed up with the damn wording... I'm so upset, because it was so pretty otherwise. Ah well.

All in all, I really enjoyed the class and am glad I took it. I really felt like I learned a lot. I would recommend this class to anyone, but it would be remedial for any one who knows anything about Photoshop. Also, the teacher: Derrick Hayes was great. I actually enjoyed that his background wasn't photography.

What the heck?

If anyone can explain to me why my photos sometimes don't post in the right colours, that would be greatly appreciated. I'm not sure what blogspot doesn't like about some of them. They are all saved as jpeg, and some work and others not...

Photography 1 - Last class

Well everyone, the final day of Photography 1 has come and gone. It's all over. I don't feel too badly about it because I'm excited to take more classes. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to wait until September until the next class.

Overall everyone's submitted pictures were good. There were some very creative people in the class. The good news is that I didn't feel like my pictures were the worst. I'd say average. I won't post all of the pics. Some are already in the blog, like Dimi with a ball under Curtis' foot; the Photocell band shot; and Curtis' portrait, but I'll attach a few of them.

We had to write a test as well last night... probably the easiest test I've ever written. I think I'm a little too used to university tests, because I was kind of inclined to write paragraphs, when all she wanted was one sentence, one word, one "circle the correct answer"... meh... that's my style and I'm sticking to it.

So, I hope you enjoy the pics. Hopefully they will only get better from here.

Photoshop - Week 6

Today was my second last Photoshop class. That means that today my magazine cover was due. I thought I would share my creation with you. Don't bother looking for it on newsstands anytime soon: This is a Roon-Boppin' Photography Adventure exclusive! Okay, well I just posted it, and the colour is all messed up... not sure why, but I guess you'll just have to imagine it with colour... sorry.

:(

Next is photo restoration. I haven't worked on that at all, but it needs to get done this week because I'm out of town this weekend. Luckily, I have all night Tuesday and Wednesday.

Thursday is my final Photography 1 class. I am sad. I've picked my photos and will post them after I present them to my classmates on Thursday evening, so stay tuned for that! I still have to get them on CD, and also I have to pick a couple more. I don't really feel like my pictures are up to snuff... I kinda of feel like I'm not where I should be. Perhaps because I look at other people's photos in the class & feel inadequate. All this shows is that I have more to learn, more to practice and more to experience. I am a complete noob in photography and many of the people in my class are not. Hopefully I don't embarrass myself come Thursday.

2nd last Photography Class

My 2nd last photography class is tomorrow. I'm pretty disappointed because it will be spent in the computer lab, learning about Photoshop... yes... I'll still be going. Who knows, there may be something we talk about in that class that my PS class has yet to discuss (ex. copyrighting photographs using PS).

This weekend I'm going to dedicate much time to taking photos and working on my magazine cover. I had the magazine cover just about finished in class this week, but when I went to save it, I didn't have enough space to save it as a PS document, so now I need to recreate it. I know, I know! I don't think that should be too difficult. At least I'll get more practice in. Once I'm finished, I'll post it for all to see.

I used to get really sad thinking about my photography classes finishing up. I feel ready now. In class we're not really learning anything new, just working on things. Stuff I can do on my own. Also, having 2 classes a week leaves me very busy. It will be nice to have at least one night a week where I don't have to go anywhere or do anything. My sink is full of dishes! I don't have time to do them tonight, and tomorrow is class... hopefully my most wonderful husband (are you reading this?) will do them on Thursday.

On a side note... I noticed the other day that Sam & Mary included my blog of them in their blog... that was WICKED! So cool! It almost makes me feel like a mini non-celeb. That doesn't even make sense. The point is, it was very nice to see & definitely brought a smile to my face. Now I just need to start getting attention because I take great pics (still working on that).

A lack of inspiration / motivation?

Well, this weekend I was really pumped because it was Woofstock and I thought to myself: I LOVE dogs & taking pictures of dogs!! This will be the PERFECT opportunity for me. Well, I went... I took a few photos, but none that I liked. It was very hot out, and bright, so I was hot and uncomfortable... I blame that. However, a friend of mine went as well and I saw some of her pictures and they are GREAT! Ugh! I'm so jealous. I saw a shot she took of some dog cookies and treats, it is so good!

The problem is that I need to have 10 pictures for my final project in my photography class, and currently I have 2 maybe 3 that I will be submitting. I'm feeling a little stressed about that. I won't have any time to take pictures during the work week, because I have class 2 of the days and the other 2 I've got reservations for comedy shows. Maybe I'll bring my camera to the comedy clubs... see if I can get a picture of a comedian and use that as my "take a picture of someone you've never photographed before" category. This weekend I am going to have to focus really hard at getting some good shots. I need to think outside of comfort zone of taking pictures of Dimi and Curtis at the park. I need to think more creatively... I'm just afraid that it's not going to happen. I'm so used to being inspired by what I'm photographing, instead of working the other way around. If I want to be a great photographer, I'll need to work on that.

Oi!

Photoshop Week 4

In this week's class, we didn't really learn much new. We went over some stuff that we learned the week before and spent a lot of time working on our assignments. So, I spent some time trying to restore some old photos my parents and aunt gave me. I tried to restore colour in a couple pictures of my mother in the 70's. I wasn't very successful in the first one, but the second one it better. It's very difficult to get that 70's orange hue out. The third picture is an old black and white of my dad and aunt. It was purely restoration touch ups. I think it turned out really well. It was a pretty easy one, but I think I did a good job on the shoe.

First will be the original, then the restoration:
